GLOBTAXGOV Workshop on Tax & Development
On 14 January 2019, the University of Leiden organised, in collaboration with the United Nations University-Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS) and the University of Gent, a one-day workshop on the theme of “Tax and Development”. The workshop offered a platform to exchange about the link between international taxation, the Base Erosion and Profit Shifting Project (BEPS) and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. It brought together representatives from international organisations, regional tax organisations, civil society, national governments (e.g. Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance and Development Cooperation Agencies) and academia.
During the session on “Holistic and policy inclusiveness approach to Technical assistance and the Medium-Term Revenue Strategy (MTRS) concept”, ITC advisor Robin Huguenot-Noel introduced the activities of the ITC Secretariat and described its contribution to the enhancement of domestic revenue mobilisation, most notably by facilitating the secretariats of the Addis Tax Initiative (ATI), the Network of Tax Organisations (NTO) and the DRM Innovation Fund. Robin Huguenot-Noel notably stressed the importance of coordinating initiatives of development actors, promoting South-South cooperation, and adopting an inclusive approach in designing tailor-made solutions to issues encountered in the area of tax administration.
